Wimer Road Bridge Replacement

Improving Road Safety

The County is improving Wimer Road by enhancing safety and increasing sight distance and capacity. The project is located in eastern San Joaquin County, 1.2 miles south of State Route 26. The project demolished an existing bridge, constructed a new 2-lane concrete bridge structure, and realigned the roadway approach to the bridge to soften the northerly curve, improving traffic safety. The new 2-lane concrete structure consists of two abutments and spans 62 feet. The replacement bridge is a single-span cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete slab supported on seat-type abutments with pile foundations. Each abutment has a total of eight, 30-inch diameter cast-in-drilled-hole piles. The cast-in-place slab uses polymer fiber to improve durability and was pre-stressed. The new bridge replaced the small radius curve on the previous bridge with a larger radius curve meeting current standards, with a maximum offset of approximately 35-feet.
