San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission: Lathrop Wye Box Culvert

The Lathrop Wye Box Culvert project is crucial for the Valley Rail Program and the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission (SJRRC) as it aims to construct a new wye track connecting ACE trains traveling north from Ceres/Modesto to the existing ACE trunk lines into the Bay Area. The timely completion of this project is essential to support seamless train travel and enhance the overall efficiency of the regional rail system. The project addresses structural deficiencies in the existing infrastructure and ensures compliance with environmental permits, facilitating future expansions and improving local transportation networks. The project involves the construction of a double-barrel reinforced cast-in-place concrete box culvert in the French Camp Outlet canal, operated by the South San Joaquin Irrigation District (SSJID). The culvert is approximately 384 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 11 feet tall, featuring reinforced concrete wing walls and aprons at the inlet and outlet with riprap and rock slope protection to prevent erosion. The construction requires temporary damming, dewatering, and a water diversion system to isolate the work area. This phase facilitates a future railroad crossing, with tracks connecting the Lathrop Wye tracks to the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Oakland Subdivision to be constructed in a separate phase. Ghirardelli provides comprehensive construction management services, including oversight of construction permits, utilities, traffic, planning, organizing, monitoring, and directing all construction activities. The team ensures compliance with environmental regulations, facilitates effective communication and coordination among stakeholders, and maintains rigorous documentation and inspection standards.
