Countywide Overlay – Local Streets & Roads Program

Countywide Overlay – Local Streets & Roads Program – Contra Costa County, CA

CLIENT: Contra Costa County

The Countywide Overlay Project provided pavement rehabilitation at three sites that were all arterial roadway segments.

Site No. 1: Pleasant Hill Road from north of Rancho Drive to Reliez Valley Road

The major site construction consisted of removing and replacing area of damaged surfacing (base failures), milling to remove 2.25 inches of the existing Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) surfacing, then placing an HMA overlay of the same thickness, adjusting utility covers to grade, constructing passageways through curbed islands, constructing HMA dike, and placing new pavement delineation.

Site No. 2: Byron Highway from Brentwood Boulevard to north of Marsh Creek Road

The major site construction consisted of removing and replacing area of damaged surfacing (base failures), cold planing existing HMA surfacing for cross slope correction, performing cold in-place recycling of the existing HMA surfacing to a finished depth of 4.6 inches, placing a new 1.5-inch layer of HMA over the in-place recycled material, adjusting utility covers to grade, replacing an existing utility box with a traffic rated box, installing new traffic signal loop detectors, placing new detectable warning surfaces for ADA ramps, adjusting pedestrian push button assemblies to correct height and placing new pavement delineation.

Site No. 3: Vasco Road from east of Walnut Boulevard to west of Camino Boulevard (Frisk Creek Bridge)

The major site construction consisted of removing and replacing area of damaged surfacing (base failures), cold planing to remove 0.15 foot of existing HMA surfacing from the traveled way, placing a 0.15-foot overlay of rubberized HMA (Type G) (RHMA-G) over a Geosynthetic Pavement Layer (GPI), apply a fog seal to the roadway shoulders, and placing new pavement delineation to include raised thermoplastic traffic stripes, channelizers and ground-in rumble strips. A detour route over Walnut Boulevard and Camino Boulevard to the west of Vasco Road is specified in the contract plans.
