Ghirardelli provides on-call construction management services to the County and Flood Control and Water Conservation District — offering resident engineering, inspection, and material testing for flood control and roadway improvement projects. Ghirardelli’s scope of services includes construction management and field inspection, construction project safety and best practices, constructability review and recommendations, cost and schedule management, technical support, environmental monitoring, coordination with other agencies, claims management and dispute resolution, and commissioning and system integration. We provided services for the following tasks:

East 14th Street Corridor Improvements Phase II: The project developed a long-term vision for the corridor that extends through five jurisdictions, providing essential north-south connections throughout the inner East Bay, paralleling Interstate 880, and connecting with two major east-west bay crossing bridges. Ghirardelli provided construction management, construction inspections, and material testing services for this project, which included new sidewalks, high visibility crosswalks, new bike lanes, intersection bulb-outs, raised curb medians, pavement resurfacing, pedestrian-scale street lights, street trees, stormwater treatment systems, utility undergrounding, fiber optic conduit, bus boarding islands, decorative street furnishings, bike racks, and public art.

Castro Valley FY 21 Overlay Project: Ghirardelli provided construction management, construction inspections, and material testing services for several street maintenance projects in Castro Valley neighborhoods. Paving work included curb and gutter repairs, grinding, resurfacing, and striping.

Safety Improvements on Fairmont Drive: Ghirardelli provided construction management, construction inspections and material testing services for new crosswalks, ADA ramps, pedestrian crossing lights and bike lanes in San Leandro. Construction Management General Support Services for Various Projects: Ghirardelli provided staff augmentation to the County for several projects, allowing County Inspectors and Construction Managers to focus on select projects and to take time off.

Palomares Road and Redwood Road Safety Improvements: Ghirardelli provided construction management, construction inspections, and material testing services for this federally funded project to improve traffic safety along Palomares Road and Redwood Road by providing pullout areas to facilitate speed enforcement and to serve as emergency parking for disabled vehicles.

Construction Management General Support Services for Encroachment Permit Inspections: Ghirardelli provided encroachment permit inspections for construction projects.

West Sunset and Garden Avenue Sidewalk Construction Plan Review: Ghirardelli conducted a review of the 50% plans for the subject project. The review had a three-day turnaround. Our team reviewed and provided comments on the plan’s readability, consistency, constructability, and conformance with permits.

Crow Canyon Storm Damage Repair: Ghirardelli provided construction management services to repairs to the storm damaged northerly shoulder of Crow Canyon Road. The project included the construction of four walls at four discrete locations along the 1,400-foot-long project limit, with varying lengths of 50, 100, 106.5, and 140 feet.

Patterson Pass Emergency Repair: This project entails roadway rehabilitation along I-580 to repair damage caused by the 2023 winter storms. This emergency response project utilizes geogrid, rock slope protection, engineered fill, and key and bench methods to provide slope stabilization along the edge of the travel way. The roadway subgrade is reinforced, followed by 6” Class II AB and 6” AC – Type A. Scheduled to complete in April, Ghirardelli is providing resident engineering and civil inspection from inception to close-out.

Lake Merritt Pump Station Channel Gates: This project involves the provision of a traffic control system and construction area signs, along with the rehabilitation of the Lake Merritt Pump Station channel gates. The gate rehabilitation will include sandblasting, patching, recoating, modification of edge seals, and replacement of ancillary items. In addition, the project will rehabilitate the Lake Merritt Pump Station trash racks, which will involve fabrication, installation, and removal of temporary trash screens, sandblasting, recoating, patching, as needed,

and reinstallation of the rehabilitated trash racks. Ghirardelli provided construction management services for the project.
