For the past 10 years, Ghirardelli has been providing on-call construction management and inspection services to the City of Anaheim. We consistently deliver comprehensive construction management, inspection, and contract administration for a wide range of capital improvement projects. These projects include roadway widenings, pavement rehabilitation, ADA upgrades, sanitary sewer installations, water main replacements, storm drain systems, structure enhancements, well improvements, park and facility upgrades, as well as electrical system enhancements. Our team has successfully coordinated with local agencies and stakeholders, ensuring seamless collaboration on numerous projects. By fostering strong relationships, we have effectively navigated complex project requirements and achieved outstanding results for the City, including APWA and ASCE award winning projects.
Orangewood Avenue Widening and Infrastructure Installation: The project expands the roadway to three lanes in each direction and installs new 16″ water lines. It includes encased conduit duct banks for 12Kv underground substructures, powerline conversions, street lights, traffic signals, and fiber optic systems. Located in Anaheim’s Platinum Triangle, construction must align with stadium event blackout dates, requiring weekly coordination with the City’s TMC, Disney, the Convention Center, and stadium representatives. Ghirardelli’s duties include verifying traffic controls, monitoring construction, ensuring contract compliance, reviewing RFIs and as-builts, coordinating field tests, and overseeing environmental requirements. Key lesson: Constructability reviews save both time and money – the location of a jack and bore pit designed to be directly adjacent to a major high-profile fiberoptic line clearly shown on the plans could have easily been relocated prior to construction avoiding costly redesign time and delay.
Anaheim City Facility Project: This project includes elevator modernizations, operational procedure outline sheets projects for City buildings including the Anaheim Convention Center which provide for window washing and maintenance, electric vehicle charging station projects, fire alarm panel upgrades, and many other building HVAC upgrades. Key lesson: Ensure designs take into account recent service records for downstream switchgear breakers – failure to do so may result in delays and additional costs for unaccounted for breakers required to be switched off in order to upgrade project scoped breakers.
