Chase Street Bridge Replacement Project

Ghirardelli successfully delivered the Chase Street Bridge Replacement Project, the City of Sonoma’s largest public works project in its history. This project represented a pivotal effort to enhance the infrastructure along Chase Street over Nathanson Creek. The 24-foot-wide slab bridge was replaced with a state of the art cast-in-place slab bridge, spanning 30 feet over the creek. This transformative project addressed not only the seismic vulnerabilities of the existing bridge but also improved connectivity by extending sidewalks on both sides, creating a safer and more accessible environment for pedestrians and cyclists. The construction, completed within a single season with careful consideration of environmental constraints, included the abandonment and realignment of an 8-inch water line beneath the creek, showcasing meticulous coordination with utility companies. The new bridge, featuring two vehicle lanes, shoulders, and sidewalks on both sides, boasts a single span measuring 53 feet in width and 30 feet in length, supported by 12-foot high abutments. The new bridge is constructed on a 25 degree skew to the road, so the bridge abutments are now parallel to the flow of the creek and the bridge was constructed in close proximity to several residential homes. The project was strategically located on Chase Street over Nathanson Creek, between Broadway and Austin Avenue, contributing to the overall improvement of the local transportation network. Ghirardelli provided construction engineering support services, including roadway and structure construction inspection, and office engineering. Ghirardelli demonstrated a commitment to budgetary excellence, overseeing financial resources to guarantee that the project stay within allocated funds. Our team conducted thorough reviews of project timelines, ensuring timely completion through strategic planning, seamless coordination, and effective communication with project teams and stakeholders.
