Ghirardelli provides construction engineering support across Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, and Mendocino counties in Caltrans District 1. Since 2017, we have managed scope, cost, and schedule for various projects, offering inspection, materials testing, plant inspection, office engineering, scheduling analysis, and claims support. Our initial contract (03A2585) evolved into two contracts in 2019: 03A2917 for construction engineering and inspection, and 03A2942 for claims and scheduling review. In 2022, contract 03A3405 consolidated and expanded our services to include claims support, CPM scheduling, and additional materials testing. Ghirardelli goes beyond technical services by leading staff training, ensuring safety compliance, managing budgets, coordinating subconsultant work, and upholding DBE goals. We have successfully managed over 28 task orders with a team of 25+ personnel and 20 subconsultants, delivering consistent support for Caltrans projects. To enhance efficiency, we conduct detailed CPM schedule reviews to reduce working days and keep budgets on track. To prevent cost overruns, we require subconsultants to submit daily time reports, ensuring real-time budget oversight and avoiding surprises.
Indianola Road Undercrossing: The construction of a new offramp and overpass on Hwy 101 in Humboldt County to replace an at grade crossing. This project includes installation of Micropiles, a new bridge, and realignment of the existing roadway. This project is a key component of the Arcata-Eureka Safety Corridor improvements. Lake County, Blue Lakes Safety Project along SR 20: The project improved and existing curve, installed two retaining walls, widened and paved the existing shoulders, installed guardrail and terminal systems, excavated a sight bench, replaced and extended culverts, relocated overhead utilities, and added centerline and should rumble strips.
Calpella Two Bridges Replacement: This project involved the replacement of 2 bridges with the construction of one new bridge, approximately 800 feet in length and 44 feet wide. Additionally, the project included significant roadway realignment and improvements to an adjacent intersection to enhance safety. During this project, drone surveys provided precise earthwork quantity tracking, avoiding a potential $300K claim and streamlining dispute resolution.
