Our History – Working

Alice Ghirardelli’s style has always been straightforward. She believed in fostering a good environment that embodied respect, equality, and opportunity. She likened adding staff to growing one’s family – setting people up for success and growth. Early additions to the team included Randy Bruner, PE, our current President and CEO, and Raewyn Butcher, currently Executive Vice President.

In addition to Alice’s technical expertise, she possessed the tenacity to pursue public work, starting on a small project with the City of San Mateo as a utility inspector.  Six months later, she hired her replacement and secured on-call work with the City of San Francisco. In about a year’s time, Ghirardelli had twelve associates on board. The first larger contract, and southern California expansion, began with San Jose’s Valley Transportation Authority, a long-term client supported primarily by Mr. Bruner. Steadily, the company diversified its scope of services and geographical reach to include all facets of construction management services in public works, transportation, rail, environmental and ports and marine across the State of California.

Since its inception, Ghirardelli has engaged in industry associations and the small business community. We continue our commitment to serve in a socially responsible manner with non-profit outreach efforts, small business mentoring, and internships. Just as in the beginning, Ghirardelli believes in a values-based philosophy that creates rewarding opportunities for our associate work family and serves our clients with integrity, quality, responsiveness, and professionalism.
