Ghirardelli’s Rail Transit & Systems team have been hard at work supporting the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Interlocking Replacement Projects. “Shutdown season” is in full swing and the replacement of the C25 Interlocking in Orinda is scheduled for completion in July 2020 – just weeks before the A65 Interlocking Replacement in Hayward begins. Our engineers have been providing field and office construction management support and oversight for these projects.
The interlocking replacements are part of the bond measure RR track construction upgrades. The upgrades will provide improved efficiency in the management of train operations and system reliability. Both projects involve the replacement of four #10 special trackwork turnouts, in addition to traction power and train control upgrades. Performing track upgrades at strategic, high traffic locations ensures system reliability and integrity throughout the system.
Three of the four C25 shutdowns have been completed successfully, on time, with zero accidents or injuries. Scott Richards, Geraldo Reyes, and Max Sanchez have supported these projects with their specialist expertise in traction power, while Mustafa Hosseini, Elvis Castelino, and Paul Cabral have provided specialist expert support in train control. Charlie Krueger and Mike Peters continue to play a key role throughout these projects, providing support to our Rail Transit & Systems team and joining them on the weekend shutdowns.
Ghirardelli is proud of the fantastic efforts displayed by these Associates, who have worked tirelessly days, nights, and weekends to support the client throughout construction. The fourth and final C25 shutdown weekend will commence on Friday, June 19, 2020.
We thank our team for their hard work and wish them the best of luck in the coming months, as they complete the C25 Interlocking Replacement Project and begin the A65 Interlocking Replacement Project. Shutdown season starts early next year, with the R65 Interlocking Replacement Project which will commence in January, followed by HMC2 and A75 in summer 2021.
