About Us

Overview

Ghirardelli Associates works directly with our clients, providing construction inspection and management, as well as permit oversight and program management services. This hands-on technical knowledge and experience at the top of our firm benefits your project because we are better prepared than our competition to solve problems and reduce costs.

In addition, our staff has worked under the supervision of Caltrans resident engineers on many state projects. We often fill the role of project manager or resident inspector for local agencies with state funded projects, encroachment permit requirements, or federal funding requirements. Our Associates are familiar with the State Local Assistance Procedures Manual, Bridge Construction Records and Accounting Procedures, Construction Manual, Standard Test Methods and Traffic Manual.

OUR HISTORY

Ghirardelli Associates History

“When I started Ghirardelli, I wanted it to be a values-based company. It was important that we operated on principles that would keep us together and going the right direction”.

Alice Ghirardelli’s style has always been straightforward. She believed in fostering a good environment that embodied respect, equality and opportunity. She likened adding staff to growing one’s family – setting people up for success and growth. Early additions to the team included Randy Bruner, PE and current President, and Raewyn Butcher, currently Executive Vice President.

In addition to Alice’s technical expertise, she possessed the tenacity to pursue public work, starting on a small project with the City of San Mateo as a utility inspector.  Six months later, she hired her replacement and secured on-call work with the City of San Francisco. In about a year’s time, Ghirardelli had twelve associates on board. The first larger contract, and southern California expansion, began with San Jose’s Valley Transportation Authority, a long-term client supported primarily by Mr. Bruner. Steadily, the company diversified its scope of services and geographical reach to include all facets of construction management services in public works, transportation, rail, environmental and ports and marine across the State of California.

Key Milestones:

  • 2005 – Caltrans District 4, $1.4 billion San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge
  • 2012 – LA Metro, $25 million Sound Walls Project
  • 2013 – 50+ Associates
  • 2015 – Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) $150 million as needed construction management and inspection services
  • 2016 – Caltrans District 1 & 3
  • 2020 – Celebrating 20 Years!

Since its inception, Ghirardelli has engaged in industry associations and the small business community. We continue our commitment to serve in a socially responsible manner with non-profit outreach efforts, small business mentoring, and internships. Just as in the beginning, Ghirardelli believes in a values-based philosophy that creates rewarding opportunities for our associate work family and serves our clients with integrity, quality, responsiveness, and professionalism.

Commitment. Integrity. Responsive. Professional. Accountable. Problem Solvers. Honesty. Quality.
